Walcherhorn (3692m)
Ok, so it’s a little bit shy of being a 4000m peak but it was really good fun.
We took the amazing Jungfrau train to the Jungfraujoch station. (Worth the trip just to see the incredible engineering feat of tunnelling a train through 2 mountains.)
From there we roped up for the glacier crossing. First over to the Mönchjoch pass, then across the Ewigschneefeld Glacier to the Walcherhorn itself. We put crampons on for the ascent and descent as it was a little steep and icy. Then we came back again, stopping for cake at the Mönchjochshütte.
Round Trip 6 hours.
(You can hire a local Guide for this trip from the local Guides office, but it’s relatively easy for anyone with roped glacier crossing experience.)
