UK Area: England
Details: A pleasant walk combining riverside and moorland scenery. From the top of Winsford Hill the route descends from the trig point across the moor to Great Bradley. Take the tarmac drive to the right of the hedge to the private road sign where the path crosses fields to drop through woodland to the River Barle. Follow the Barle downstream to Tarr Steps, the path closest to the river is a little sporty but the most rewarding. Cross the ford on Tarr Farm side (bridge) then climb back onto the moor via Ashway Side to Varle Hill and the minor road. Cross B3223 to join green track which skirts the boundary of the moorland to the Caratacus Stone. Cross lane at Folly to skirt top of Punchbowl to start point. 12.2km, 302m ascent/descent, 2:50hrs. Recorded 7/9/18
