GPX Walking Routes

Arthur's Pike The Easy Way

Take the road onto Askham Fell from Helton. Park at sp ht 305. Route goes NW on clear track to Moor Divock then cuts W across to The Cockpit (stone circle). It then roughly follows the line of the Roman Road (High Street) SW climbing steadily towards Lords Seat. On gaining the ridge it cuts across to the path coming from Arthur's Pike and follows this path N to the Pike. Good views from here. The return is via the path from the Pike across Barton Fell back to The Cockpit. This time head N on a well defined path to the cairn marking the intersection a cross path. Turn right and return via Ketley Gate to start. 11.8km, 300m ascent/descent, 2:40hr. Recorded 17/8/15.

Whin Rigg, Illgill Head, Sca Fell and Slightside from Miterd

Longish day with a fair bit of climbing but using a fairly unused route - unlikely to see too many people on this apart from Sca Fell summit - feels very remote. Actual GPX track from my Etrex 30 so squiggly line ;-)

The Essex Way

Travel through the Essex countryside from Epping to Harwich on this 81 mile footpath. The path takes you through some interesting towns and delightful villages, including Chipping Ongar, Terling, Willingale, Pleshey, Coggeshall, Dedham and Mistley. The walk includes riverside sections along the River Blackwater, the River Colne and along the River Stour at the end of the route. This final section is particularly lovely passing the Wrabness Nature Reserve on the banks of the river Stour estuary. Here you can see owls, yellowhammers, whitethroats, turtle dove, song thrush, nightingales and bullfinches. The walk is waymarked with a white disc featuring poppies.
