North Stainmore
This walk gives superb views over the Pennine watershed but is very boggy in places so is probably best done after a dry spell or when the ground is frozen hard. Park at former Punch Bowl pub in North Stainmore, take minor road NE to moor. Follow path NE over Bow Crag to Soulgill Head. UA Bdy fence gives handrail SE to Pind Hill and then S to Round Hill. Return along BW to road via Wham Mouth and then retrace to Punch Bowl. 12.1km, 302m ascent/descent, 3hrs. (Based on a gpx trace (avoiding boggiest bits) recorded on 23/11/12)

Cross Fell and Rake Moss
From Kirkland follow path to join Pennine Way north of Cross Fell and continue east to Backstone Edge. Return south of Cross Fell using old miners track and non existent bridleway and drop off ridge via Wildboar Scar. 19.6km, 813m ascent/descent, 5:15hrs.
