  • 29/12/14 ...and splendour, splendour everywhere (Betjeman). What a day. A hard frost, blue sky, snow on the higher tops, low winter sunshine and fog just below in the valleys. Many photos. Iron hard ground ,icy footpaths, and big boots made for cumbersome walking.Parked at Glen Mary Bridge, fp up to Tarn Howes which was half iced over. sunny and calm on top.Leaving the summit L filmed our strong shadows walking along cast against a parallel grassy bank - very odd combination of low sun and angled bank. walked past Rose Cottage - a NT holiday let just as a heating engineer,s van pulled up -the poor residents must have had a heating breakdown.
