• So much to see on this small hill which is one of many similar drumlins (small ice smoothed elongated rock debris hillocks deposited by the retreating glaciers) that produce a “basket of eggs” landscape covering much of the area SE of the Lake District (which is where the rock debris was eroded from). A Geography lesson can be had from up here covering mountains, rivers, valleys and urban use with Kendal spread below. Lovely place on a late spring afternoon with a dipping sun giving great side lighting. The 12th century ruined castle has undergone a major project involving repairs to the masonry, landscaping, and new information displays on the site with steps up into the circular tower where you can look down the en-suite toilet hole into the moat ! Climbed past the ski slope where kids on giant rubber rings were having fun on the moguls All this in 30 minutes between the weekly shop and a return to Broughton for another week of house / cat sitting for Easter.
