- From Grindon church then straight up the obvious track with fingers crossed not to be challenged(no ROW) for 2 fields passing a St George flag half way(?). Nobody in sight at the farm. The same dustbin lorry that had blocked the road an hour ago now forced me off the track as it accelerated up the steep track behind me whilst walking walking back to Grindon.The severe winter of 1947 brought particular hardship for moorlands villages like Grindon. Relief was brought by air drop, but one RAF Halifax aircraft crashed into the moors near Grindon during a severe blizzard.
