- Made famous when the 2014 Tour de France came to Yorkshire and sent the riders up the killer climb of Jenkin Road which crosses the eastern shoulder of the hill. The summit commands a birds eye view over Sheffield and the Lower Don Valley with its steelworks and Meadowhall shopping centre. It is the site of an iron age hill fort and in WW1 was the site of an antiaircraft gun protecting the steelworks from potential Zeplin attacks. Sadly on the one occasion a Zeplin did attack and drop 36 bombs - no shots were fired as all of the officers (who could give the order to fire) were at a ball! In WWII it was also the site of anti aircraft gun and searchlight.
