  • First visited this in 1982, during a circular walk across Anglezarke Moor. Nearby is the mysterious and impressive Round Loaf, the largest burial mound in Northern England, which is about 4000 years old. For some utterly bizarre reason this has never been excavated. Who knows what secrets lie undisturbed within it? On another occasion whilst crossing the moor on our way to Great Hill, the night after Halloween. We came across a disturbing sight on Round Loaf. A crow staked through it's chest, in the centre of the mound. Crows are associated by some people with Death and Evil, and this may have been part of some kind of black magic ritual?
