• Morning walk to trig and around Blacka Moor from our holiday housesitting down below on Whitelow Lane. So nice we ran the route again in the afternoon -incl the nice steep climb up. Totley railway tunnel, once the 2nd longest tunnel in Britain at 3.5 miles goes under the moors here with a ventilation shaft prominant.Web has stories of people admitting /claiming to have walked through the tunnel as a dare as youths and hiding in the alcoves as train went past- damp and smelling of diesel and frightening! These eastern moors are being managed by a partnership of the National Trust and RSPB -who are funding a dry stone wall to be rebuilt further north than the trig-we chatted to the waller and stroked his dog -he has been working on it alone bit by bit for over a year -using the existing rocks form the wall and chipping them into neater shapes.
